I register this as a shared reality

Reality does not become less real because someone else experiences it differently. We can occupy the same moment and recognize different things, carry different histories into it, and arrive at different conclusions about what it means. Connection begins when we recognize that our own perspective is not the entirety of what is happening. Satisfaction in a relationship does not require identical experiences or perfect agreement. It becomes possible to meet another person without demanding that one of us surrender what we know in order for something to be shared.
