I am the one who is received

Belonging changes when we stop approaching every encounter as a test of whether we will be accepted. There is a difference between entering a space hoping to earn our place and recognizing ourselves as someone who can be received. Connection does not require becoming whatever another person expects, and satisfaction does not depend upon winning universal approval. We can arrive as ourselves, participate in what is happening, and allow the encounter to reveal what is possible between us.

Being received is not limited to being welcomed by another person. It can mean allowing friendship, love, recognition, opportunity, support, and unexpected experiences to reach us without continually questioning whether we belong.
